AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC U23 came from behind to secure their sixth win in a row by overcoming their East Coast Bays counterparts 3-1 in Saturday’s Round 8 Lotto NRFL Premiership match at Bay City Park.
Valerio Raccuglia’s charges have struggled to find rhythm in the first half and the home side looked more dangerous forcing an acrobatic save from City keeper Reon Werahiko before taking a deserved lead in the 41st minute when Bailey Stevenson headed home from a set piece.
Desperate to keep their winning streak going the Navy Blues emerged from the half time break with more attacking intent and they were rewarded in the 57th minute courtesy of in-from striker Ryan Revill.
Four minutes later the visitors were ahead thanks to a Samuel Coyle own goal.
Oscar Duffy came off the bench to seal the come-from-behind victory for the Navy Blues in injury time.
In other results, league leaders Auckland United have suffered their first defeat of the season going down 3-2 to Western Springs, while second placed Bay Olympic cruised past Tauranga city 6-1 on the road.
Birkenhead thrashed Eastern Suburbs 9-0 while the games between Manurewa and Hamilton as well as between West Coast and Melville United were postponed.
Auckland City, who have played a game less than the two teams above them sit in third place with six wins from their seven matches to date.
They are three points behind Auckland United and Bay Olympic who have seven wins from their eight matches.
Raccuglia’s men next host Bay Olympic on Saturday, 11 May at the Croatian Cultural Society with kick-off at 12.00 pm.
