The Auckland City FC Academy is split into three groups in order to maximise the different training session requirements for each group.

Introductory Skills sessions are focused on children aged between 6 and 8 years of age. The skills sessions are an important part of the Academy offering young players a chance to develop their individual skill levels under the guidance of some of our Auckland City Football Club first team players.

It allows children the opportunity to work on their basic football skills and technique whilst at the same time having fun enjoying game. It is at this early age that children develop their love for the game and we want to enhance that along with improving the basics.

As this will involve players taking part in football for the first time, activities in this phase need to be exciting, enjoyable and stimulating. This will involve lots of movement, plenty of ball contact, loads of encouragement.

LEARN-Academy-Skills Centre (9th – 12th Grade)

Skills sessions for 9th-12th grade are developed in line with the New Zealand Football Skills Centre Programme. This allows the Academy to implement training guidelines and curriculum based on the international methods of best practice.

The skills centre is aimed at giving players the opportunity to learn and acquire additional skills.

9th to 12th grade is the optimal time to focus on developing the football skills which are essential for long-term participation in football. Training and playing will place emphasis on learning football skills within the context of the game alongside further developing the skills acquired in the junior skills session phase.

Skills sessions are run for a 60 minute timeframe twice a week.

“If you don’t focus on developing the technical gifts at an early age it is much harder to pick those things up later on”   Ivan Vicelich

LEARN-Academy-Pathway Program

The Academy offers a more structured and focused delivery over a 90 minute timeframe for children aged 13 to 15 grade, twice a week.

The Academy is ultimately aimed to produce better footballers and focus on developing and nurturing the player.

More focused training such as Goalkeeper training, injury prevention and strength and conditioning is delivered by qualified coaches.

“Every player will receive well rounded technical instruction, making sure that they have the building blocks and technical traits so they are armed with the ability to play the Auckland City style. “  Ivan Vicelich
