HONG KONG, China - Auckland City FC will face Hong Kong League XI in the third place match after Sagan Tosu FC downed the hosts in a penalty shoot out on Tuesday.

The J-League side beat the Hong Kong select 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Hong Kong Stadium. It was the second match of the competition.

Fernando Torres opened the scoring after 38 minutes but the hosts drew level with 15 minutes to go when Junior Soares netted for Hong Kong.

Sagan Tosu made no mistake in expertly dispatching their four spot-kicks. For the Hong Kong side, Lazari’s effort was saved by the keeper, and Paixia blasted his decisive penalty against the underside of the crossbar.

Led by veteran English coach Kevin Bond, the Hong Kong eleven was mainly made up of Hong Kong Pegasus players.

Shandong and Sagan Tosu will now play for the Tonghai Financial Chinese New Year Cup on Thursday. Auckland and Hong Kong will play in the third-place play-off on the same day.
