Navy Blues preparations intensify
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC's preparations for the OFC Champions League National Playoff continued after an intense week of training at the Croatian Cultural Society concluded with a friendly against a Takapuna XI.
The Takapuna XI, coached by Chris Milicich, only recently returned to training as City assistant coach Ivan Vicelich put the Navy Blues squad through their paces.
Goals courtesy a Joe Lee hat-trick, Cam Howieson, Liam Gillion, Matt Ellis, Takuya Iwata and an own goal rounded off the early morning match before the City squad were put through a gruelling training session in hot conditions in Te Atatu.
"It was a very good from the players today in very hot conditions and they showed great application to what we asked them to do.
"It was very important the players showed a good energy and work rate in their recovery and they did that which was very good," Vicelich said.
City have now played five games since the turn of the year including their FIFA Club World Cup match against Al Ahly.
The first leg of the OFC Champions League National Playoff against Wellington Olympic takes place on Saturday 11 March 2023 at Martin Luckie Park at 2.00pm NZST.
