AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC Academy is pleased to provide an update on its ongoing relationship with Metro FC for 2022.

Last year, Auckland City FC and Metro FC signed a memorandum of understanding that brought the two clubs closer together at grassroots and youth level.

This year, that relationship intensified with the appointment of Kris Bright into the Sporting Director role.

Academy Director Nic Downes explained what happened in 2019 and up to the current season.

"We sat down with Metro in 2019 and wanted to do something new.

"There are a number of fantastic community clubs in our area and we saw an opportunity where we could try and connect the junior and youth players at Metro with Auckland City FC, while still recognising the important place of Metro FC in the community.

"From then we’ve seen many junior players from Metro engage in our Skills Centre program and we hope to see that continue, as well as run several coach education workshops at Phyllis Street to support the inhouse and team coaches.

"Going in to 2022, we also now have many Metro FC players playing premier football through Auckland City FC across the youth age grades.

"We are starting to see the benefit of the partnership for both clubs and intend to continue to focus and evolve what we are doing in this space," he said.

Metro FC's Ant Owens described the success of the relationship so far.

"A lot of work has gone into this project by Auckland City FC and ourselves and we're excited by what's been achieved so far.

"The existing junior and youth relationship has gone well and with the senior space added to this we are optimistic for the future.

"Auckland City FC has achieved a lot of success locally and internationally and this next step in our partnership is a logical one, " he said.
