DRURY, Auckland - Auckland City FC's commitment to promoting grassroots and youth football in the recreational space came to the fore when Albert Riera, Alfie Rogers and David Browne visited the Drury U-9 tournament.
A spokesperson for Drury United thanked the Navy Blues' Rob Hayter for organising the visit around a busy day of football for the club.
"It was perfect football weather and the six competing teams made the most of it.
"The sportsmanship and fair play were fantastic to see, from players and spectators alike. It was an all-round success and we look forward to holding more tournaments in 2020.
"Thank you to organiser Rob Hayter and his crew of volunteers and sponsors who made the day possible, to the Auckland City FC players who attended and to the teams & their supporters," they said.
Overall winners Manurewa SAE were the standout team of the tournament after they won a nail-biting penalty shootout with Taupo AFC.

Alfie Rogers, Albert Riera & David Browne had a great time!
"Football gives you so many opportunities to have fun, learn, develop and play the game at this age" - Rogers
Alfie Rogers, who passed the 50-match mark for Auckland City FC last season, was only too happy to be part of the festivities.
"Promoting grassroots and youth football is important in growing the game and it's a pleasure to give something back at this level.
"Football gives you so many opportunities to have fun, learn, develop and play the game at this age and it makes you a better, stronger person.
"We had a lot of fun at Drury United and the children and parents seemed to as well," he told www.aucklandcityfc.com.
