Auckland City FC’s landmark qualification for the FIFA Club World Cup is more than just a footballing triumph; it is a catalyst for real and lasting change in the heart of Mount Roskill.

At the core of this transformation is the Mount Roskill Schools Project, a $6 million NZD initiative that will provide the local community with state-of-the-art sports facilities while strengthening the connection between football and social development.

Spearheaded by Ivan Vuksich and Kris Bright, the project is the result of years of dedication and collaboration between Mount Roskill Schools the Ministry of Education, charitable trusts, and Auckland City FC.

Once complete, it will deliver an all-weather playing surface, floodlights, an administration building, and a designated warm-up area, offering the students of Mount Roskill schools and the wider community unprecedented access to quality sporting infrastructure.

General Manager Gordon Watson said:

"This project is a key focal point for the club as we prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA in June.

"Every journey has a clear purpose and we have two: to compete to the best of our ability at the FIFA Club World Cup and a higher purpose which is to raise awareness of the Mount Roskill Project.

"Auckland City FC has a unique opportunity before us to add value to our local community through our qualification for this spectacular competition in the USA in three months time."

A Growing Community in Need of Investment
Mount Roskill is home to 30,000 residents, many of whom come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The area has long been a hotbed for football talent, but a lack of high-quality facilities has hindered opportunities for young players to develop and for community football to thrive.

The Mount Roskill Schools Project aims to change that by creating an environment where football can flourish year-round, providing access to modern infrastructure that benefits not only the students but the entire local population.

Auckland City FC’s Commitment to Social Change
Beyond infrastructure, Auckland City FC’s community coaching programme—delivered by players and volunteers from both Auckland City FC and sister club Central United FC—has already begun alleviating social issues within the school.

This initiative fosters inclusivity, promotes healthy lifestyles, and provides mentorship to young people through sport. Football is not just a game in Mount Roskill; it is a vehicle for education, social cohesion, and opportunity.

The Impact of the FIFA Club World Cup
Auckland City FC’s qualification for the FIFA Club World Cup USA 2025 brings global attention to this ambitious project.

More than just a chance to compete against some of the world's biggest clubs, the tournament offers an unprecedented platform to highlight the transformative power of football at the grassroots level.

The club’s presence on the world stage will drive awareness and help secure further funding and support for the Mount Roskill Schools Project, ensuring that the benefits extend well beyond the pitch.

A Lasting Legacy for Mount Roskill
Preliminary design and investigation works have already begun, with construction set to commence in the near future. The Mount Roskill Schools Project represents a significant milestone in Auckland City FC's commitment to community engagement.

More than just a sporting facility, it will be a hub for football development, a safe space for young athletes, and a beacon of opportunity for future generations.

As Auckland City FC takes on the world's best at the FIFA Club World Cup, the real victory will be felt in Mount Roskill, where a community is set to benefit from the power of football for years to come.
