Kiwitea Street to host Central United FC O-40s
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC will play host this Saturday to players from sister club Central United’s veteran’s (Over 40’s) team.
The Veterans team is made up of players who have represented the club for two, three and in some cases four decades and they provide an essential heartbeat around Kiwitea Street.
They are gathering together this weekend to pay homage to a very special person who sadly lost her brief and courageous battle with cancer last Sunday 26 March 2023.
Pauline Macdonald was one of the unsung heroes of Kiwitea Street.
She took on the role of unofficial “team mother” of the Central United veterans for well over a decade.
This included washing their playing kit each and every week, babysitting young children of players on the sidelines during matches and supporting the team in every way possible.
Pauline was one of those champions that every team wishes for and every club needs. She always had a smile on her face and had time to talk to everyone.
Auckland City FC Chairman Ivan Vuksich added:
“Pauline was a kind, generous and happy person who freely gave of her time to help others.
Her commitment and dedication to ‘her team’ was unwavering over a really long period of time.
She will be really missed at Kiwitea Street by us all and our deepest condolences are extended to her longtime partner Paul ‘Fridge’ Vlasic and her friends and family at this time.
‘Fridge’ has been a member of the Central United veterans for too many years to remember and we look forward to hosting him along with his teammates at Kiwitea Street this Saturday and to toast Pauline’s memory.”
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, 2 Lavelle Road, Henderson at 11am on Thursday 30 March 2023 at 11am. All are welcome to attend.
