U-23 - Youngsters win latest friendly

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC U-23 have picked up a 5-0 in their latest pre-season friendly in Auckland's west.

A brace by Matthew Matanyayire and goal for Sam Clegg, Legion Rogerson and Jeremy Foo gave City the positive result in the midweek game.

Pre-season friendlies have been tricky to come by this summer with new coach Valerio Raccuglia readying his team for the Lotto NRFL U-23 Premier Division.

A 3-3 draw with Western Springs last week was the U-23s first real hit out but this latest result has given the side a boost ahead of the season.

"It was a physical game but our players kept their composure and gave a good account of themselves.

"We have another friendly coming up tomorrow when we play Takapuna U-23 and things are taking shape," he said.

Auckland City FC U-23's defence of their Lotto NRFL U-23 Premier Division titles starts on Saturday 25 March at the Croatian Cultural Society against Western Springs.
