JAPAN - Former Auckland City FC and Japan international Teruo Iwamoto showed his off his Navy Blues colours at a youth football session in his home land.

Iwamoto played nine times for his country and scored two goals while carving out an extensive J.League career with Nagoya Grampus Eight, Kawasaki Frontale and Vegalta Kawasaki between 1991 and 2004.

He signed for the Navy Blues in 2006 and made two appearances in the New Zealand Football Championship under former coach Allan Jones.

Navy Blues supporter, Mick Kanai, was on hand to see Iwamoto in action and had this to say:

"Teruo Iwamoto is the legendary lefty and was in town recently.

"He was definitely looking forward to seeing Auckland City FC back at the Club World Cup in December - we both were," Kanai said.

Iwamoto, 49, has nothing but positive things to say about the club.

"I hope to visit New Zealand again one day perhaps after all the Covid-19 mess ends.

"I send my best wishes to everyone at Kiwitea Street," he said.
