AUCKLAND, NZ - Auckland City FC claimed three crucial points at Kiwitea Street in a dramatic 3–2 victory over Tauranga City AFC — a result arriving at a vital moment in a packed fixture period, with matches piling up ahead of next month’s 2026 OFC Champions League campaign in Fiji.

The afternoon carried special significance both on and off the pitch. The club honoured Arthur Egan’s 90th birthday, celebrating a figure whose contribution to football spans more than six decades. And on the field, Dylan Manickum became only the seventh player in club history to reach 200 appearances, marking the milestone in a match that demanded resilience and quality.
City stunned early, then respond with force
Auckland City were almost ahead inside the opening minute, but instead found themselves shocked at the other end moments later. Tauranga broke quickly and Colby Brennan forced the ball over the line in the 3rd minute to give the visitors an unexpected lead.
City reacted immediately. Angus Kilkolly and Pavel Osmancik both drew strong saves from Tauranga goalkeeper Ryan Foord, who delivered a standout performance throughout the afternoon. Mario Ilich then struck the post with a powerful effort as the Navy Blues began to build pressure.
Corners piled up, and Gerard Garriga’s deliveries repeatedly unsettled the Tauranga defence. The breakthrough arrived in the 29th minute — not from a corner this time — as Garriga’s cross found Nathan Rostron, who guided a superb header into the net to level the match.
Just four minutes later, Rostron produced one of the goals of the season. A blistering run down the right, a fierce strike into the top‑left corner — a true pile‑driver, and one of the finest finishes seen at Kiwitea Street this year. He came close to a remarkable hat‑trick minutes later, only to hit the side netting.
Second‑half twist and a milestone moment
Tauranga struck back immediately after the restart. Benjamin Petrik unleashed a stunning left‑footed effort that flew beyond Matt Foord, levelling the match at 2–2 with back‑to‑back world‑class goals lighting up the contest.
But City rallied again — and fittingly, it was the milestone man who made the difference.
Dylan Manickum, on his 200th appearance, powered his way into the box before laying the ball off to Gerard Garriga, who finished coolly to restore the Navy Blues’ lead.
City pushed for a fourth: Garriga struck the post, Adam Mitchell headed narrowly wide, and Rostron was denied a late chance by a superb last‑ditch tackle from Jake Daly. In the end, Auckland City held firm to secure deserved but hard‑fought points.
