WASHINGTON, D.C. — Auckland City FC brought the curtain down on their final training session at George Mason University this morning, marking the end of a focused and energising week in the U.S. capital ahead of their international friendly against UAE champions Al Ain FC — the final dress rehearsal before their FIFA Club World Cup campaign begins.

With the early summer sun rising over the George Mason Sports Complex, players and staff were joined pitch-side by Todd Bramble, Deputy Athletic Director, who watched the session in full and shared warm words with club representatives.

At its conclusion, Club President Ivan Vuksich presented Mr Bramble with a set of club gifts, including a framed korowai cloak symbolising new beginnings and unity, a nod to the values Auckland City FC carry with pride.

“It’s not just about preparation, it’s about building connection,” Vuksich said. “To be welcomed like this, with genuine hospitality and support, reminds us of the deep respect sport commands across borders. We’re proud to represent New Zealand, and deeply thankful to George Mason for providing a world-class home base.”

The team’s time in Washington has set the tone for the challenge ahead: tomorrow’s fixture against Al Ain will be their final hit-out before facing European giants Bayern Munich in the opening round of the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM local time (8:00 AM NZT), with the match taking place behind closed doors.

As the countdown to Cincinnati begins, Auckland City FC carry more than just footballing hopes, they carry the aspirations of a country, the spirit of an amateur side unafraid of giants, and the unity of a club proud of its journey.
