AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Auckland City FC Academy will be running a four-day holiday football programme from Monday April 17 until Thursday April 20, between 9am and 12pm at Epsom’s St Peters College.

There will be a wide range of activities offering players the opportunity to develop their individual skills and to learn from specialist coaches and some of Auckland City FC’s first team players.

Academy director Nic Downes says the programme was designed to both educate and engage the participants.

“It’s a great way to have kids to continue playing football throughout the year. And it’s nice because it’s not focussed on team trainings necessarily, but it’s a good opportunity for the players to come into a bit more relaxed environment to play football.

We will run it over four days, players can come day by day or attend all of it, we have a number of coaches down there and we try to keep it different each day.

“Generally we’ll do a lot of 1v1, 2v2 type of activities and a lot of game activities, and it’s really about getting the players on the ball, trying things out, challenging them as well to get better and hopefully score lots of goals while they are doing it,” he said.

Apart from Academy coaches a number of Navy Blues including Jordan Vale, Adam Mitchell and Gerard Garriga will also join in the activities with the players to pass on some handy tips onto them.

Downes says the holiday programme will cater to kids of all ages.

“It’s a wide age group so we start from the age of six all the way up to 13, and they are split in different age groups so they are not all mixed up, they generally work with players from their own age group,”

The holiday football activities will be conduced at St Peters College and regardless of the weather conditions Downes insists the players will have plenty of fun.

“We run the programme at the College’s turf, so it’s in all weather, rain or shine the kids can get out and play,” said the Academy director.
