HAMILTON, NZ - Auckland City closed out their Northern League campaign with a controlled and disciplined win at Gower Park, a performance shaped by early pressure, a decisive set piece, and a late defensive stand.

City began with intent. After six minutes Ryan Watson’s corner found Adam Mitchell free at the near post, the captain rising well but heading narrowly wide. The visitors carried the greater threat throughout the first half: Angus Kilkolly forced an excellent save from Max Tommy, while Tom Golding also went close.
Despite City’s dominance, Melville produced the clearest chance of the half when Ari Prasad reacted sharply to deny Lucca Lim from close range.Prasad, making his first appearance in some time, was required again shortly after the interval, pushing away another Melville effort before City finally broke through.
Nathan Lobo delivered a precise corner to the far post, where Mitchell timed his run perfectly and headed in the opener.
Tommy continued to keep Melville in the contest, producing another outstanding save to stop Kilkolly.
The closing stages grew increasingly frantic as the hosts committed bodies forward, with the Melville golakkeeper Tommy joining the attack at set pieces.
Yet it was City who looked more likely to extend their lead, Fergus Gillion and substitute Pavel Osmancik both threatening on the counter.
Mitchell praised the collective effort afterwards, emphasising the importance of finishing strongly.

U23s: Earlier in the day, the Young Navy Blues defeated Melville United U23 4–2, with Sam Clegg scoring twice and Sean Cardinali and Carlos Stulich also finding the net.
