AUCKLAND, NZ - Auckland City FC fell to a frustrating 4–3 defeat at Bay City Park after a seven‑goal rollercoaster that saw the Navy Blues chase the game all night but fall just short in a breathless contest.

East Coast Bays struck first inside four minutes, Luke Flowerdew finishing from close range after a pinpoint Liam Andersen cross. City responded instantly — Pavel Osmančík forcing the ball over the line from a Gerard Garriga corner to level the match.
But the chaos continued. In the 10th minute, Louis Wickremesekera smashed Bays back in front, and moments later City came agonisingly close again when Regont Murati, making his 100th appearance for the club, delivered a superb cross that Osmančík headed against the bar.
City’s persistence paid off in the 23rd minute. Ryan Watson showed brilliant control before drilling a left‑footed finish into the bottom corner to make it 2–2. Yet the hosts struck again almost immediately — Wickremesekera grabbing his second to restore Bays’ lead at 3–2.
The Navy Blues pushed hard before the break, with Garriga’s corners causing repeated danger, but Bays goalkeeper Mitchell Bond held firm. A frantic first half ended with City trailing by one.
The second half brought more drama. Murati struck the post with a fierce drive, and in the 57th minute City equalised for a third time — Michal Douděra delivering a superb cross that Garriga met with a brilliant half‑volley to make it 3–3.
But again, Bays responded. Flowerdew curled home his second of the night to put the hosts ahead 4–3, and despite relentless City pressure — including Bond denying Garriga and tipping Thomas Golding’s late effort over the bar — the Navy Blues couldn’t find the equaliser.

Head Coach Rudy Mozr acknowledged the frustration of a night where City created enough chances to take something from the game:
🎤 “We conceded very early again — you’re chasing the game the whole way.”
🎤 “We hit the crossbar, hit the post, had six chances that didn’t go in. But if you concede four goals, you can’t really expect a great result.”
🎤 “We’ve been good defensively through the season, but last week and tonight we’ve conceded too many. We’ve got to fix it and get ready for the Chatham Cup.”
On Regont Murati’s 100th appearance: 🎤 “It’s not the best way to celebrate it, but he’s made a mark on the club. Everybody loves Reggie — it’s great to have him back.”
