PLAYER PROFILE - Fabrizio TAVANO
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Tavano emigrated with his family to New Zealand as a 12-year-old and attended and played his football at McLean College in Auckland.
His journey from New Zealand secondary school football to the senior ranks in first Italy, then Mexico, is as fascinating as it is unusual.
Tavano has played for some big clubs including Vicenza Calcio, Pisa, Carpi and Santos Laguna, but it was his first spell with Auckland City FC that got people talking back in 2014.
Deployed as the Navy Blues focal point for the attack, Tavano's fitness and willingness to work hard was an important feature in the club's success at the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2014.
His performances at that tournament saw him picked up on a professional contract in January 2015 by Mexican club Tigres UANL.
Tavano left the club to return to Kiwitea Street for the start of the OFC Champions League competition in 2016.
He describes his first loves in football as Atlas and FC Barcelona while he considers Lionel Messi as the best player in the world today while Enaut Zubikarai is his favourite local player.
