The 23-year-old signed for the Navy Blues in 2015 as third choice goalkeeper behind Tamati Williams and Jacob Spoonley but is increasingly pushing for the number one spot with a string of impressive performances for Central United in their Lotto NRFL Premier Division title victory in 2016.

A modern goalkeeper for whom comfort in possession of the ball at feet is second nature, Drake was drafted in just in time to enjoy the Navy Blues OFC Champions League triumph in Suva when the club defeated Team Wellington in a penalty shoot-out.

He made his ISPS Handa Premiership debut for WaiBOP United, selected after outstanding displays for Ngaruawahia United, and becomes the fourth Auckland City FC player to be signed from the Waikato side behind Stu Watene, Matt Williams and John Irving.

His brother Reid, also a former Ngaruawahia United player, is the fifth.

Drake rates one-time Waikato FC forward and All Whites international Ryan Thomas as the best player he's faced so far while as a Newcastle United fan, Alan Shearer rates a mention as one of his heroes.

His best memories in football include two FIFA Club World Cup trips to Japan, winning the Lotto NRFL Premier Division in 2016 and playing in the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup final in September with Central United.
