AUCKLAND, New Zealand - All Whites striker Myer Bevan has rejoined Auckland City FC from Western Springs for the forthcoming season.

Released by Vancouver Whitecaps after loan spells in Sweden and the US, Bevan returned to New Zealand this winter to rejoin his first club, Western Springs, in the Lotto NRFL Premier Division where he bagged eight goals as the Hoops finished fourth.

He returns to Kiwitea Street after a three year absence under new head coach Jose Figueira.

"I really like working with Jose, we have a good working relationship. I've played for him at Auckland City FC in the youth team previously and did very well under him.

"I respect Jose a lot both as a coach and as a man. As soon as he gave me the call to come to Auckland City FC, I wanted to work with him and grabbed the opportunity.

"I think it's going to be a good season with a new group of players coming in and especially with Jose as the coach.

"I debuted for Auckland City FC as a teenager and I'm excited to be back and with a chance to get a full season under my belt with the club and hopefully win the league.

"Auckland City FC is definitely the best stepping stone back to professional football in New Zealand.

"Professional football is where every player wants to be and hopefully Auckland City FC can get a FIFA Club World Cup qualification under our belts next year.

"The way Auckland City FC is run and the way its viewed by the people behind the scenes it's run almost like a pro club in every sense," he told www.aucklandcityfc.com.

Head coach Jose Figueira was delighted to secure the services of the well-travelled Bevan whom he worked with previously with the club's National Youth League set-up.

"I am delighted to secure the services of Myer for the upcoming season. With the departure of key players in the attacking department, having someone of Myer’s quality is exciting.

"Still in the infancy of his football career and a huge amount of potential, Myer has already experienced the highest levels of the game and these experiences will only enhance our environment," Figueira said.

Bevan returns to the club a full international with six caps and two goals to his name having made his debut under former coach Anthony Hudson and adding three more caps under his successor Fritz Schmid last year.

The fleet footed frontman is eager to impress this summer with Danny Hay installed as the new All Whites coach only last week and Auckland City FC entering an exciting new era under Figueira.

Figueira says Bevan has all the attributes to be a major success for both club and country.

"Myer will bring the team attacking flexibility with the ball along with high energy and work ethic without the ball.

"He has the qualities to play a variety of positional roles in the attacking line which will allow him to fit straight into the way we want to play on the pitch.

"Off the pitch Myer has an infectious personality, which is underpinned by someone who is really focused on further developing his game.

"It is great to be linking up with Myer once again. I have always kept a keen eye on the progress of players I have worked with previously, and it is no different with Myer. We have always had a good connection and he is someone who sees the game they way I see it," he said.

Bevan is currently in camp with the New Zealand U-23 side as they prepare to take on Australia in two friendly internationals before heading off to Fiji for the OFC Olympic Games qualifiers.

"Playing for the All Whites is the main objective for any player who grew up in New Zealand.

"To make my debut for New Zealand at QBE Stadium against the Solomon Islands in 2017 in front of friends and family was a special moment for me.

"To get into that environment was a crazy feeling and now I have a few caps under my belt I want to strive to add more," he said.

Bevan has netted twice for the All Whites already but says he finds it difficult to recall exactly how they came about although as long as they keep coming it's not a detail he's obsessed about.

"Scoring for the All Whites was a crazy feeling. I don't tend to remember my goals, you often don't know what's going on around you when the ball hits the back of the net.

"Maybe that changes the older you get but right now I like to focus on what happens in the moment," he said.
