AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC goalkeeper, Ruben Parker is hoping to kick on in his first season with the Navy Blues after making the switch from Hawke’s Bay United in pre-season.

In 2015, Parker left the Auckland City FC youth team to pursue first team football, with the Spanish-born keeper the Canterbury United Dragons.

The following season saw the young keeper return to the North Island, where he played thirteen games for Hawke’s Bay, creating a name for himself in the process.

Here are five facts to know about Ruben Parker.

Parker was born in Spain

Born to a Kiwi father and Canadian mother, Parker was born in Spain and lived in the football-mad country till he was Nine Years Old. He then packed his bags along with his parents and left Spain for New Zealand.

Parker runs a Goalkeeping Academy

As a passionate goalkeeper, Parker runs an academy called One Stop Goalkeeping. His main goal is to help young goalkeepers realize their true potential in the goalkeeping world. The Academy operates in both Auckland and Hawke’s Bay.

Food and Wine a passion for Parker

Parker has a strong taste for both food and wine and likes to often try new things in the food/wine tasting world. This passion has led the Auckland City FC goalkeeper to complete a University degree in Wine Science, in which he finished last year.

Parker wasn’t always a keeper

Parker began playing football like any normal kid and started off as an outfield player. Parker remained an outfield player till the age of 14, where his team’s goalkeeper got injured and Parker stepped up to cover in goal. The Navy Blues keeper has been in goal ever since.

International Debut – Parker’s greatest footballing moment

As part of the build up to the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, New Zealand took on Fiji in a friendly match, where Parker gloved up between the sticks for the Darren Bazeley coached side. Parker hopes to work his way into the national scene one day and hopes to wear the Fern on his chest once again.
