AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Maro Bonsu-Maro is a talented midfielder/striker who plays with plenty of pace and fierce attacking flair for Auckland City FC.
He spent his Lotto NRFL Men’s Premier Division season with Central United and was a key figure in the midfield for the Aaron McFarland coached side during the 2018 footballing season.
With the love and passion Bonsu-Maro has for the game, it’s no doubt the midfielder has ended up with the Navy Blues for the 2018/19 ISPS Handa Premiership.
Here are five facts to know about Maro Bonsu-Maro.
Bonsu-Maro is half Ghanaian, half Pukapukan
Born in New Zealand, Bonsu-Maro has a Ghanaian father and a Pukapukan (Cook Islands) mother. The 21-Year-Old has already represented the Cook Islands at U20 level.
Bonsu-Maro’s attacking flair started at a young age
During his time at primary school, Bonsu-Maro loved playing sports and when he got older, he began to grow with football and never stopped playing the game. As a 7-8-year-old Bonsu-Maro played in a mixed Pukapuka team in South Auckland and enjoyed taking on players and scoring goals – The start of his attacking bursts that we see on the field today.
Ronaldinho is his footballing idol
Ronaldinho is a legend of the game, known for his slick passing and his skillful playing style. Idolizing the Brazilian legend, Ronaldinho, Bonsu-Maro says “It’s always been a dream of mine to meet or play against the midfield maestro in a serious or social game.”
He’s just completed his University degree
Bonsu-Maro has been studying at AUT for the past three years doing a Bachelor of Business. With Bonsu-Maro completing his studies, the midfielder is excited to be graduating so that he can “have a little bit more to focus on his football with Auckland City FC.”
Bonsu-Maro eyes trip around the world
One day, the New Zealand-born midfielder hopes to go on a three-month trip with a stopover in Egypt to see the Pyramids of Giza on the way.
