Five facts about Reid Drake

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - After winning the 2017/18 ISPS Handa Premiership with Auckland City FC last season, midfield maestro, Reid Drake returns to Kiwitea Street for another season with the Navy Blues.

The midfielder spent his 2018 winter footballing season with Lotto NRFL Men’s Premier Division club, Central United and was a key player in the middle of the park for the team in yellow.

Here are five facts to know about ACFC’s number 7, Reid Drake:

1. Drake is from Napier

Born in Napier, Drake and his family lived in Hawkes Bay till he was 11-Years-Old. They then made the move from Hawkes Bay across to Taupo and then from there Drake and his family gradually began to move north, living in both and Cambridge and Hamilton before finally settling in Auckland.

2. Football has been inside Drake’s family since he could remember

One of Drake's earliest memories as a child was playing football with a size one ball inside the house with both his brother and his dad. Drake is the youngest in both his internal and extended family and was influenced to play the sport at a young age as all his relatives were involved with football.

3. Drake scored on his National League debut

Prior to playing for Auckland City FC, Drake was involved with WaiBOP Football and made his debut for WaiBOP United. On his debut, Drake managed to notch a debut goal, which he describes as one of his favourite footballing memories. Although turning out for Auckland City FC the past few seasons, Drake describes his journey so far with the Navy Blues as a memory in the making, winning two OFC Champions League titles, one ISPS Handa Premiership league championship, three minor premiership titles and one Nike Lunar New Year Cup.

4. Drake is passionate about introducing children to Sport

Outside of football, Drake and his brother Danyon run a business, which is aimed at introducing young children into sport.

5. Football has offered Drake a lot of opportunities, both on and off the pitch

From Drake’s experience in football, the Auckland City FC midfielder has had the opportunity to travel to places all over the world, playing at tournaments such as the OFC Champions League, The FIFA Club World Cup as well as other significant footballing events. Among that, Drake has met some of his best friends through football and says “It’s great to be able to play the game I love with my mates and it’s even better when you're winning and travelling around our country and the world doing so. It will definitely be something I can look back on as one of the happiest times of my life.”
