Zubikarai wins Golden Gloves Award

LAUTOKA, Fiji - Goalkeeper Enaut Zubikarai was also recognised for his outstanding performance in the OFC Champions League when he was awarded the competition's Golden Gloves trophy.

Zubikarai set a new competition record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal racking up 1,086 minutes as a new shut-out benchmark.

He also kept 15 consecutive cleansheets in all competitions between January and April of 2018.

Zubikarai won the award last season and is the third Auckland City FC goalkeeper to be recognised with this accolade and the second to win it twice.

Jacob Spoonley won the Golden Gloves award in 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons while Tamati Williams won it in 2014-15. 

Despite losing the OFC Champions League semi-final on the away goals rule, Auckland City FC remain undefeated in 24 matches in the competition between 3 May 2014 and 29 April 2018. The competition is record of longest undefeated run is 27 matches also set by the Navy Blues between 28 March 2008 and 31 March 2012.

Auckland City FC has also won the OFC Champions League Fairplay Award for 2018.

The Navy Blues were eliminated from Oceania's premier club competition at the semi-final stage following a 2-2 draw with Team Wellington.

Elimination saw the Navy Blues lose their grip on a trophy they've won nine times previously.

Team Wellington defeated Lautoka 10-3 on aggregate to register their maiden Oceania club title victory.
