AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC club stalwart Maureen Burnside.
Maureen provided Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC 46 years of service starting when she first came to the club in 1971 with her husband Wally Burnside.
She brought her two sons, Tony and Craig, down to the club to register them for football. When she returned home, she informed her husband he would be the coach and she would be the manager.
Since then, she held a range of positions at the club, including junior president, and became famous for her lamb and gravy rolls.
In 2011, both her and her husband received long service medals from Auckland Football.

Last May, Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC fulfilled one of Maureen's dreams when they organised a ride around Auckland in a 1966 Ford Galaxie red convertible via the New Zealand Hot Rod Association.
Auckland City FC chairman Ivan Vuksich paid tribute to the Burnside family.
"Maureen was a loyal, committed and passionate member of the Mount Albert Ponsonby club and her loss will be keenly felt by everyone connected with the game in Auckland.
"Her hardwork, dedication and love for her club and community is expressed by the length of her connection to Mount Albert and on behalf of everyone at Auckland City FC, and our sister club Central United, we send our condolences to Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC and, of course, the Burnside family," he told www.aucklandcityfc.com
Auckland City FC, Central United and Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC have drawn closer in recent seasons following the creation of the Brian Stanyer Memorial Trophy.
The trophy, a pre-season friendly played between Central United and Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC annually, is in memory of another Anderson Park legend Brian Stanyer who sadly passed away in 2016.
