AUCKLAND, New Zealand - The switch from local to international competition excites Navy Blues youngster Callum McCowatt.

18-year-old McCowatt has bagged six goals in 16 matches since signing for the Navy Blues leaving him as second top scorer behind Emiliano Tade with 14.

Domestic football and a taste of FIFA Club World Cup action in the 1-0 defeat to Al Jazira in December has whet the former Ole academy graduate's appetite for more success in the OFC Champions League.

"I have enjoyed every minute of being at Auckland City FC. Everyone welcomed me to the team and I've loved living in Auckland, so everything fits nicely for me on and off the pitch.

"I was actually living in Auckland previous to being at Ole, I moved when I was 15.

"I lived in Wellington for about two and a half years before I moved back to Auckland with my family but we've lived in the city our entire lives so it was easy to make the transition back.

"Everything is going perfectly so far in the OFC Champions League with two wins out of two.We didn't know too much about AS Venus but it is what it is. We're just looking to perform well in each match.

"Everyone's feeling good, everyone's feeling positive about our chances in the OFC Champions League and it's nice to switch focus from the local competition to the Oceania stage," McCowatt told www.aucklandcityfc.com

The Navy Blues look in good shape after a 7-0 thumping of AS Venus and a 5-0 win over Madang FC and now face a virtual playoff with Lautoka for a home quarter-final.

The Fijians have also picked up two wins after downing Madang FC 3-1 and overcoming AS Venus 2-1. McCowatt believes Lautoka will pose a difficult challenge but he and his team-mates can't wait for the opportunity to go through to the last eight with a 100 percent record.

"I'm excited to play different players from different countries and Lautoka is no different and should be a tough game. We know there won't be any easy games when you're defending champions, so I am looking forward to the game on Saturday and I know everyone else is too."

The match with Lautoka kicks off at 4pm at Trusts Arena on Saturday 3 March 2018.

Entry to the game is free.
