AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC win their first game of the ISPS Handa Premiership season after beating Waitakere United 5-0 at Trusts Arena today.

The result was a vital one for an up till now misfiring Navy Blues side but the day belonged to striker Emiliano Tade who chose the perfect occasion to overtake Grant Young's long standing domestic goalscoring record for the club with two fine goals.

Young, who made 128 appearances for the Navy Blues between 2005 and 2010, scored 58 goals in the ISPS Handa Premiership along, part of an over-all haul of 66 strikes in a trophy-laden career at Kiwitea Street.

Tade has 139 matches under his belt and 84 goals in total. He is also the fifth most appearances for the club behind Angel Berlanga (154), Chad Coombes (146), Ivan Vicelich (171) and James Pritchett (203).

Despite Tade's scoring exploits it was Waitakere United who should've taken the lead when Keagan Linderboom broke clear before sliding the ball wide of Enaut Zubikarai's goal.

Linderboom drew annoyed looks from Fabian Istefo to his right who could easily have tapped a cross into an empty net.

Unsuprisingly, Auckland City FC domainated possession and that was converted into a solid advantage when Tade's stuttering run-up forced goalkeeper Liam Anderson the wrong way after 36 minutes.

Last year Auckland City FC lost the plot on this venue but this time it was Waitakere United's turn. Ryan Cain, booked for an earlier foul on De Vries, picked up a second and shown red.

Inevitably it was De Vries who doubled the lead two minutes before the break to give the Navy Blues some breathing space but his second, 20 minutes later, was a pure joy.

Holding off his marker on the edge of the box, De Vries somehow rolled away before clipping a beautiful chip over the top of goalkeeper Liam Anderson who could only watch as it dropped into the back of the net.

Tade grabbed his 59th goal in this competition for Auckland City FC with just 20 minutes left and with their hosts Waitakere United all but out on their feet.

De Vries completed his hat-trick almost on the stroke of fulltime to leave Waitakere United well beaten.

Coach Ramon Tribulietx was delighted with the result and the performance of the team and, in particular, the front two.

"When it was 11 v 11 we were very good, we dominated it was difficult because they weren't giving us in any space in the middle of the pitch.

"The pitch was very slow and that put a lot of difficulties in the way we wanted to play so we tried to use the space in behind them to create the penalty and a couple of chances from that direct ball.

"When they went down to 9 men it was a different game. I'm taking the first 30 or 35 minutes as a good indication of where we are at.

"The two strikers have been very good for us. Tade for eight years, De Vries for four, especially internationally. They've proved they can score goals and we needed that win today to change the dynamics," he said.

The Navy Blues host Canterbury United at Kiwitea Street next Sunday and the match kicks off at 4.35pm
