AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC earned a 4-1 pre-season friendly defeat to an impressive New Zealand U-17 side at QBE Stadium on Tuesday.

Elijah Just opened the scoring after just a minute when his long range strike beat Danyon Drake from 25 metres in an explosive start.

Emiliano Tade levelled the game two minutes before halftime with a slick finish but the Navy Blues fell behind just after the restart following a defensive lapse.

The game fragmented in the second half as the changes were rung and New Zealand U-17 completed a morale boosting win with two goals inside a minute, one from the penalty spot, with a quarter of an hour left to play.

Both coaches have very different objectives and took full advantage of the opportunity to give their benches a full run out.

New Zealand U-17's attentions turn towards the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India when they face Turkey at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on October 6.

They face Paraguay at the same venue three days later before taking on African champions Mali on October 12 in New Delhi.

Auckland City FC move on to their next pre-season friendly at Onetangi Domain on Saturday 23 September when they face Hamilton Wanderers in the Fuller's Festival of Football on Waiheke Island.
