Edwards departs Navy Blues
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC bid farewell to technical assistant Carl Edwards as he takes on the Wellington Phoenix video analyst role.
The 27-year-old joined the Navy Blues in 2013-14 performing coaching tasks over two spells up to the end of last season.
He also held a Football Development Officer role with Auckland Football for just over two years overseeing the Talent porfolio.
Edwards has started his role immediately working closely with the Phoenix technical staff led by new coach Darije Kalezić.
"I'm grateful to the Wellington Phoenix for this great opportunity to work in a fulltime professional environment with top coaches and players on a daily basis and I'm excited to be here.
"Auckland City FC has been one of the best experiences I've had in football with the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco in 2014 the highlight on the pitch.
"The domestic and regional title wins were memorable and so too was the Nike Lunar New Year Cup in January," Edwards said.
Edwards enjoyed plenty of success with the Navy Blues as the club won four consecutive OFC Champions League titles, an OFC President's Cup, three Charity Cups, two NZFC titles, a FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal and a Nike Lunar New Year Cup win in Hong Kong in January. There were also four consecutive minor premiership titles.

Edwards joins a long list of former Navy Blues personnel to done the yellow and black with Albert Riera, Ben Sigmund, Tom Doyle, Roy Krishna, Michael Boxall, Matt Ridenton and Oli Sail having blazed a trail with the Hyundai A-League outfit.
Edwards leaves behind a solid body of work in Auckland having held the Coaching Development and U-19 coach jobs at Albany United and a spell as Development Coach with East Coast Bays U-15 team.
He was also a key figure in Auckland Football's delivery of the Federation Talent Centre programme for two years.
Edwards departure is the latest in a line of appointments and departures at Kiwitea Street with former Junior Navy Blues coach Andy Peat departing the club last season to take up a position with Vancouver Whitecaps.
Peat is replaced by the experienced Aaron McFarland who takes the reins of the Auckland City FC National Youth League team for 2017. Ramon Tribulietx was confirmed as head coach for the 2017-18 season in June.
