AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC coach Ramon Tribulietx was a happy man as the Navy Blues defeat Hamilton Wanderers 4-1 at Kiwitea Street.

It was the Navy Blues second win over Wanderers in the space of four days and with nine goals scored and just one conceded there was clearly a bounce in the step.

The victory keeps Auckland City FC at the top of the table level on points with Team Wellington but ahead by virtue of their superior goal difference.

Tribulietx explained why the win was vital with their last three games with Southern United, Waitakere United and Eastern Suburbs AFC looming on the horizon.

"Today was a difficult game and they looked fresh while we maybe looked a bit tired at first because we've played a lot of games in a short period.

"But we played well and I thought we dominated but it took us a while to get into the game.

"But once we took control we played well and created chances and it was good to see us start to score a few goals.

"We suffered in the first 10 minutes and Wanderers were pretty good and kept the ball very well.

"But once we got into the game I was very happy with our reaction and we have to be pleased.

"A fourth game in two weeks is going to be tough mentally so we'll have to think about bringing players in and consider players who have been out with injury who can be available.

"Its going to be an important part of the story because we have an important game with Waitakere United next Sunday.

"But thats why its very important that when we change things with three or four players that we have the depth and quality to keep our standards very high," he said.

The Navy Blues next match is with Southern United on Wednesday 22 February, 2017, at Kiwitea Street.

The match kicks off at 1pm.
