Six Selected for Māori Football Squads

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Six players from Auckland City FC have been named in U-16 and U-19 men's squads by Māori Football Aotearoa.

Liam Solomon (Ngāpuhi), Cameron Orchard (Ngāti Rangiwewehi) and Kane Winstanley (Ngāi Tahu) feature in MFA's Mangopare U-16 side to face New Zealand Secondary Schools at Seddon Fields on 23 January 2025.

Mangopare play two matches with their secondary school counterparts at 9.00am and 1.30pm.

In the U-19 squad are another three Auckland City FC players with goalkeeper Reon Werahiko (Ngāi Tahu/Ngāti Whaoa), forward Oscar Duffy (Ngāpuhi) and Niko Tarawa (Ngāti Ranginui).

The Mangopare U-19 play two matches with their opponents at 11.00am and 3.30pm.

Auckland City FC General Manager, Gordon Watson, said: "Everyone at Auckland City FC is proud to have six of our players in the Mangopare, it is an honour for our club to see these young players represent themselves, their iwi, Māori Football Aotearoa and the club in this setting. We wish them and everyone connected with these matches, including New Zealand Secondary Schools, four excellent matches."
