AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC will be seeking redemption this Saturday night as they face Bay Olympic FC in Round 18 of the Northern League at Olympic Park.
The Navy Blues are eager to avenge their narrow 1-0 defeat in Round 9 at the Croatian Club, where Ronaldo Munoz’s stunning 6th-minute strike secured a memorable victory for Bay Olympic.
Despite relentless pressure and numerous scoring opportunities, Auckland City were thwarted by an inspired performance from Olympic goalkeeper Oliver Pocock, who made a series of crucial saves and was twice aided by the woodwork.
Currently, Auckland City sit second on the table, level on 39 points with leaders Birkenhead United but trailing on goal difference.
Bay Olympic, meanwhile, find themselves in sixth position, 14 points adrift of the top two.
With the stakes high and pride on the line, both teams will be looking to make a statement under the lights at Olympic Park.
Auckland City are keen to exact their revenge, while Bay Olympic are hoping to pull off another upset.
HEAD TO HEAD - BAY OLYMPIC FC
This encounter marks the ninth meeting between the two sides, with Auckland City holding a dominant record of eight wins from their previous clashes, including seven in the Northern League and one in the Chatham Cup.
However, their sole defeat came in that April fixture, adding an extra layer of intrigue to this weekend’s match.
