AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Reigning  Chatham Cup holders Auckland City FC will take on Auckland United FC in a Dominion Road derby showdown at Keith Hay Park on Monday, 5 June 2023.

The two sides have never met in the Chatham Cup,  but the Navy Blues can take plenty of confidence from their last visit to Mount Roskill in April, which saw them pick up a convincing 2-0 Northern League victory, thanks to a brace by Liam Gillion.

These two rivals always bring the best out of each other and their five previous encounters have been keenly contested  affairs, full of action and tension.

City holds the upper hand in terms of their head-to-head record with three wins while United claimed victories in the other two games.

However, United have the edge at Keith Hay Park with both of their victories coming at their home ground, while the Navy Blues only success there came during their most recent visit back in April.

Both coaches will likely to consider player management and squad rotation during the busy long weekend schedule which saw the Navy Blues beating Western Springs 3-1 on Friday night and Auckland United overcoming Takapuna 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

With the do-or-die cup format adding extra pressure, City coach Albert Riera is expecting another stern test from their Dominion Road neighbours.

‘It’s going to be an exciting game, a derby against Auckland United with a very good coach and an experienced team  and players and knock-out games always bring that extra element of pressure.

“Hopefully we can bring some fresh legs, and our guys can recover well, we have a few guys who have been struggling a little bit lately, but we have a training on Sunday and back on Monday,” said the Navy Blues coach.
