LUGANVILLE, Vanuatu - Auckland City FC has strengthened its ties with Vanuatu through its relationship with the Butterfly Trust today.

Auckland City FC has been a consistent and enthusiastic supporter of the Butterfly Trusts work in Vanuatu for over a decade due to its frequent presence in the country via the OFC Champions League.

Today the club made a donation to the ongoing work of the Butterfly Trust which is currently working on infrastructure projects in Santo.

David Colbert for the Butterfly Trust said: "Thank you so much for the huge donation towards the work of Butterfly Trust. We have been following the club's games in Vanuatu and wish the Navy Blues the very best.

"We are currently shipping water filters out to the outer islands and organising a dental outreach around Efate for the beginning of June.

"If any of your extended whanau are staying on in Vanuatu after the tournament and would like to see the work first-hand, they would be very welcome to come along."

Club chairperson Ivan Vuksich said City had donated football gear in the past and also raised money at ground initiatives at Kiwitea Street frequently.

"We have just made a donation to The Butterfly Trust to continue our long term relationship with this very worthwhile Trust.

"Dave and Lynn Colbert are two extremely special people who give selflessly to help the people of Vanuatu.

"We have also made a strong connection with the Chapuis Community during the club's stay in Luganville with our recent visit there to participate in their football programme very well received.

"The main connection is, of course, through Brian Kaltak, now with the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. Brian played over 70 games for Auckland City FC and so the link is a significant one," Vuksich said.

About the Butterfly Trust

The Butterfly Trust is a New Zealand registered charity which works primarily in Vanuatu.

They listen to what Ni-Vanuatu (the people of Vanuatu) want, and then assist when asked with resourcing, administration, and monitoring and evaluation.

The trust works from the national level to the grassroots village level, ensuring that all the projects we support fit within the strategic plans of the Vanuatu government.
