BARCELONA, Catalonia - Auckland City FC squad and staff took time out from their busy schedule of training and games to watch the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Getafe at the Camp Nou Stadium last night.

Barcelona maintained their lead at the top of La Liga after a goal from Spain international Pedri proved enough to seal victory at home to Getafe.

Xavi's side were without suspended forwards Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

But Pedri's well-worked fifth goal of the season sealed a 14th league win.

The team played Jeonbuk Motors before taking a bus journey into Barcelona to take in the game and then enjoy a dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe Barcelona.

Auckland City FC president Ivan Vuksich said it was important to give the players some time away from the hard training environment at Futbol Salou.

"Preparations here in Spain are going well and the players and staff have worked hard to try to get up to speed for the challenges we face in Morocco so it made sense for us to do something else away from Salou.

"The matches with Reus FC Reddis and Jeonbuk Motors were very intense and we can be pleased and proud with the way the players performed. The results are unimportant but the big positive was the progress made given we are nearly six weeks out of season," he said.

Auckland City FC get a taste of FC Barcelona up close and personal on Wednesday 25 January at the Estadi Johan Cruyff when the Navy Blues play their final friendly in Spain against Barcelona B.
