AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC are delighted to announce the signing of Regont Murati.

The experienced defender becomes the Navy Blues second new addition of the summer transfer window joining City from rivals Auckland United.

Murati spent time at Waitakere United, Eastern Suburbs, two spells at Central United FC and Hamilton Wanderers before joining United in 2021.

Last season Murati played 50 times for the Keith Hay Park-based club and scored six goals.

Speaking after signing for City, Murati said: “I am very excited to join Auckland City FC and I am really looking forward to taking this next step at this club with the FIFA Club World Cup ahead of us.

"I'm grateful to be back and feel very blessed to sign for Auckland City FC and hopefully I can help the team achieve its goals this year. I'm excited for the FIFA Club World Cup campaign in Morocco, its a wonderful opportunity for team and for me on a personal level.

"Morocco is a great football country and their fans are passionate and their national team had a very good World Cup. A couple of players play for Al Hilal and scored against Argentina, so that shows you the standard of competition.

"Al Ahly of Egypt will be difficult, you think of players like Mo Salah who is a world class player from that part of the world, so we can expect a very tough match.

"We have a great group of people at our club and the players set high standards last year winning everything they competed in last year. I've been a player with Central United FC before, so the culture is similar. I was looking at a YouTube video the other day of a goal I scored for United and it was a memorable moment I shared with Dean Lausev, so Kiwitea Street is a special place.

"It’s a great football club with very high standards and I can’t wait to get started," Murati said.

Albert Riera said: “We need good people at this club. They need to have ability, a fantastic work ethic, they need to be humble and their attitude needs to be second to none. Reggy and I both played for Central United FC at the same time so I know he fits all those criteria.

"I saw his progression with Auckland United and we had to suffer his abilities as their rivals so I believe his evolution has been one of the most impressive in the National League Championship last season - I'm sure he's going to help us a lot in 2023."
