ALBANY, New Zealand - Auckland City FC have won the Chatham Cup for the first time after a narrow 1-0 win over Eastern Suburbs at North Harbour Stadium today.
The Navy Blues were tested to the full by Suburbs who took a conservative approach to the game restricting City to just one chance in the first half when Alfie Rogers cut through but shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Suburbs themselves produced only one chance of note in the first half when Adam Thurston tested goalkeeper Conor Tracey from distance.
City came out for the second half more purpose and created several decent moments that eventually culminated in Dylan Manickum's 57th minute opener.
Manickum, who missed the final Northern League game of the season, slalomed towards Suburbs penalty box before letting rip with a fine right foot shot that left Knowles beaten.

Suburbs threw everything at City and very nearly snatched an equaliser with 12 minutes left to play but for the brilliance of goalkeeper Tracey and his defence led by Adam Mitchell and Sam Brotherton.
Dylan Manickum won the Jack Batty trophy for Player of the Match and the Bob Smith Memorial Trophy went to Suburbs as Chatham Cup runners-up.
The Chatham Cup victory means Albert Riera has won a treble in his first season as head coach of City alongside the OFC Champions League, Northern League and now Chatham Cup.
City are also only the fourth club in the 94 years of the Chatham Cup including Suburbs (1965 and 2015), Central United (2007) and Onehunga Sports (2017) to win a Northern League and Chatham Cup double.
Waitakere City and Mount Wellington also won National League and Chatham Cup doubles during their histories.
Auckland City FC's next major outing will be in the National League Championship in early October.
