AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC will face Dunedin City Royals in the quarter finals of the Chatham Cup following today's draw.

The Navy Blues have never faced their opponents in any form of competition previously but the journey south will be familiar for many of Albert Riera's side after facing Southern United in the now defunct New Zealand Football Championship over the past decade.

Dunedin City Royals joined the competition in the second round back on the 6 June when they demolished Queenstown 6-0 at home before moving on to beat Mosgiel 2-1 away a fortnight later.

They disposed of Nelson Suburbs 3-1 in Dunedin last Saturday to set up an intriguing showdown at the end of July.

Formed following the amalgamation of Canversham and Dunedin Technical in 2020, Dunedin City Royals reached the last 16 of the Chatham Cup last season before being toppled out of the competition by Otago University.

They finished third in the Southern League six points behind first place Cashmere Technical with second placed Selwyn United ahead of them by a single point.

Dunedin City Royals won the Otago Daily Times Football South Premier League in its debut season.

The match is pencilled in for Saturday 30 July 2022 but is subject to change.
