Chatham Cup - City to face Albany United

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC will face Lotto NRFL Division 1 side Albany United in the second round of the Chatham Cup following today's draw made at New Zealand Football headquarters.

The Navy Blues reached the quarter finals of the tournament last season before exiting in a 2-0 defeat to Miramar Rangers at David Farrington Park.

City and Albany United have never met in a competitive fixture with tie set to take place at Kiwitea Street on Queen's Birthday weekend between June 4-6, 2022.

The Rosedale Park-based United have endured a tough start to the season and sit 11th in their division with both of their wins over Waitemata (1-0) and Manurewa (4-0) coming on their travels.

United's form at home has been less convincing with a solitary point from three games gained in a 2-2 draw with City's near neighbours Mount Albert Ponsonby AFC.

Chatham Cup History - Albany United

Albany United's best run in the Chatham Cup came in 2019 when they reached the sixth round before bowing out to Napier City Rovers on penalties after a thrilling game that ended 2-2.

United's run included wins over Waiheke United (5-1), Taupo (3-2), Metro (1-0) and Eastern Suburbs AFC (1-0).

Honours Board

Albany United's previous honours include an NRFL Division 4 title in 1985, an NRF Division 3 Cup runners-up placing in 1987 and two league titles, the NRF Division 1 championship of 2005 and the Lotto NRFL Division 2 title of 2019.
