Navy Blues announce Hong Kong, SC Sagamihara friendlies
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC will travel to Hong Kong for a friendly with Hong Kong Rangers at the Kitchee Sports Centre on November 29, the Navy Blues have announced.
Hong Kong Rangers play in the Hong Kong Premier League and have won two FA Cups and one Hong Kong league championship.
The match, which was announced today, will be the first of two Auckland City FC friendlies ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016.
The fixture, which will be the team's first ever friendly in Hong Kong, is followed by another warm-up game against J.League 3 outfit SC Sagamihara on December 2 in Japan.
Last year, Auckland City FC faced Yokohama FC in a friendly match prior to last season's FIFA Club World Cup showdown with Sanfrecce Hiroshima and drew 1-1.
Joao Moreira was on target for the Navy Blues in that game, which raised Auckland City FC hopes of glory at the FIFA Club World Cup, until Yosuke Nozaki equalised for Yokohama FC.
Auckland City FC have played friendlies against J.League 2 opposition in 2011, 2012 and 2015, winning two and drawing one, as well as playing out a 2-0 defeat to the Japan national team in Cessnock prior to the AFC Cup in January 2015.
