AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC have just a couple of days to rest before they take on North Shore United in the second game of their Northern League Easter Weekend Double Header.

Auckland City FC enjoyed a 4-0 win over 12th placed Waiheke United with Sam Brotherton, Angus Kilkolly, Emiliano Tade and Dylan Manickum on the score sheet to go top of the table.

Albert Riera ran a portion of his squad through a brief post-match training session that involved players like Mario Ilich a run out bearing in mind the extensive fixture list ahead of the team in 2022.

Riera said planning was critical with the games coming up.

"We have to be clever about how we use our squad. We organised this training session with that in mind ahead of these games with Waiheke United and North Shore United.

"We have to plan meticulously for every possibility which is why this small training session is important.

"We have some players who haven't played that much recently so its important that we have everyone ready to go for Monday.

"The players will rest up today and then we'll have another training session on Sunday and then we'll head to Allen Hill Stadium for North Shore United," Riera said.

One player who enjoyed yesterday's victory was Ryan De Vries.

In his second spell with the club, four years and three months and 29 days since his last competitive appearance, De Vries reflected on a day rich with colour and atmosphere.

"Its been a long time coming and I had a restless night on Thursday night thinking about what coming back to play at Kiwitea Street meant to me.

"We've won countless number of titles here in the past and I have a lot of good memories of being here and its great to be back.

"It was a great feeling to be back on the pitch in an Auckland City FC jersey.

"Waiheke made a great atmosphere here and gave their support for their team.

"I thought we played well but I was just happy to be back playing," he told www.aucklandcityfc.com.

Of special note for De Vries was the opportunity to play alongside two other club legends in Angel Berlanga and Emiliano Tade, something that hasn't happened since November 12, 2017, when Auckland City FC defeated Hamilton Wanderers 6-0 in the ISPS Handa Premiership at Kiwitea Street.

"I saw the line-up and saw the old boys there from when I was here four years ago and to see Emi and Angel back doing what they love was great.

"I spoke to Emi before the game and I said to him, 'just enjoy yourself' and that its great to have the possibility to play together again.

"Hopefully in the next few games we get the chance to rekindle that famous partnership we had a few years ago and see where it takes us," he said.

The match between Auckland City FC and North Shore United is scheduled for Monday 18 April 2022 at 3.00pm NZDT at Allen Hill Stadium.
