Honours even in latest friendly

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Western Springs held Auckland City FC to a deserved 1-1 draw at the Croatian Cultural Centre this evening in a pre-season friendly.

After falling behind to a Dylan Manickum opener, the visitors bounced back in the second half when Kenta Nakashima equalised from the penalty spot six minutes after the restart.

The game was affected by a growing number of Covid-19 call-offs affecting clubs and society throughout Auckland.

Outstanding for the Navy Blues were Manickum, Joe Lee and goalkeeper Conor Tracey.

Auckland City FC have another pre-season friendly pencilled in this week with a game against Lotto NRFL side Metro FC also at this same venue.

Whether or not that game takes place remains very much a matter for the spread of Covid-19.
