AUCKLAND, New Zealand - The Junior Navy Blues unbeaten run in the National Youth League is over after a 4-2 home reverse to the Wellington Phoenix U-17 at Kiwitea Street today.

The defeat is the team's first of the season and alongside the Navy Blues Stirling Sports Premiership defeat to Wellington Phoenix U-20 at David Farrington Park completed a bleak day for Auckland City FC.

The Junior Navy Blues started brightly enough with Jack Anderson giving them the lead when he steered home a header after 13 minutes.

But the joy was brief as Matt Conroy levelled within a minute before handing the Phoenix the lead with a quickfire second four minutes later.

Ollie Whyte extended the Phoenix lead on the hour mark and the points were made safe when Sam Sutton coverted a penalty midway through the second half.

Moses Akimana popped up with a consolation goal for the Junior Navy Blues before Jake Williams was sent off late on.

Auckland City FC's National Youth League title hopes remain strong with the Junior Navy Blues next match away to bottom placed Hawke's Bay United.
