RUSSIA - Former Auckland City FC head coach Ramon Tribulietx has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Russian professional side FC Akron.

Tribulietx egan his coaching career in 2005 at home in Spain and later moved to New Zealand where he joined the Auckland City FC coaching staff.

Tribulietx took over as head coach in 2012-13 season and led the Navy Blues to seven OFC Champions League titles in a row, three domestic titles and a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco in 2014.

FC Akron sporting director, Chris Dockerty, spoke about the search for a new head coach:

“We went through a rigorous selection process that left us with several candidates with top division experience.

"Ramon was ideally suited to the vision of the future development of the club. He is a very experienced specialist, for example, he has the most matches in the FIFA Club World Cup.

"During the interview, I asked many specific questions about tactics and the training process, and the answers convinced me that Ramon is obsessed with tactical nuances.

"In my opinion, this is a distinctive quality of a top coach. We already have a squad that is able to play number one and control the ball.

"I am confident that Ramon will be able to adapt our game model and take the club to the next level.

"Nothing can change overnight, but I am confident that over time, Akron FC under Ramon will be able to achieve results and play attractive football," Dockerty said.

Tribulietx explained how the move came about.

“Chris contacted me, told me about a project that immediately interested me. The main goal is the Premier League - and this is one of the things that motivate me.

"Yes, this is a difficult task, but we will go to it step by step. The ambitions and philosophy of the club are close to me, so I accepted the offer.

"I have already watched a large number of the team's games and have an idea about the style and level of the FNL, about the players of Akron and the game philosophy of the club."
