WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Auckland City FC's Chatham Cup hopes ended at the quarter final stage after a flat performance was punished by a clinical Miramar Rangers 2-0 at David Farrington Park today.

Joao Moreira side-footed home the crucial blow eight minutes into the start of the game after Haris Zeb left Sam Brotherton in his wake before picking out out the former Navy Blues striker with a perfect cross.

Auckland City FC delivered a tepid first half while Miramar - urged on by about 1,000 of their fans - grew in confidence, and Ollie Whyte missed a golden chance to end the tie as a contest midway through the second half when Conor Tracey blocked his close range shot.

And the Navy Blues were made to pay soon after after Reid Drake's soft shot was cleared off the line only for Andy Bevin to dispatch the decisive goal late on.

The match was done as a contest as José Figueira's team ended the game with ten man after Myer Bevan was sent off for a second bookable offence and received a verbal serve from the David Farrington Park Public Address system to cap off a forgettable day.

It was also the first time this season Auckland City FC failed to score a goal.

Outstanding for the visitors were goalkeeper Conor Tracey and attacking midfielder Dylan Manickum.

Miramar Rangers will face one of either Western Suburbs, Cashmere Technical or North Shore United/Otago University in the semi-finals on the weekend of 21-22 August, 2021.

Auckland City FC's next match is in the Northern League against North Shore United on Saturday 7 August 2021.

The game kicks off at 3.00pm NZDT.
