AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC and everyone at Kiwitea Street wishes NZF, Auckland Football and Auckland City FC Life Member Arthur Egan a very happy birthday.

Egan turns 85 today and is as active, passionate and committed to Auckland City FC as he has ever been, now in the important role of Club Ambassador.

Club chairperson Ivan Vuksich passed on his congratulations to Egan on behalf of the club.

"There are few people who match the calibre of Arthur Egan as a person and as a club member. He is selfless, hard working and passionate about not only his football and his friends, but also his family, in particular, his wife Margaret.

"Everybody at Kiwitea Street wishes Arthur many many happy returns and a very enjoyable birthday," Vuksich told www.aucklandcityfc.com.

First team coach José Figueira echoed Vuksich's sentiments.

"Arthur set the bar high for what it means to be a member of Auckland City FC. Arthur is always cheerful, supportive and encouraging to everything we do and even when he comes to our away games he pitches in to give Keith a hand setting things up and putting them away.

"This, on top of what Arthur does as club ambassador, sums up exactly what he is like as a person so on behalf of everyone in the first team staff and players, academy, U-23 environment and futsal set-up, we wish you a very happy birthday, Arthur," Figueira said.

Egan was property steward for the first team for 15 years, stepped down from that role in September 2019 after a superb tenure that took in nine FIFA Club World Cup campaigns including that memorable run to a bronze medal in Morocco seven years ago.

Egan was the last person from the club's foundation season to leave first team duties thus closing a poignant door on a significant part of Auckland City FC history.

He was also kit manager for the All Whites at the FIFA World Cup Spain 1982, a volunteer at both the FIFA U-17 World Cup and FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 1999 and 2015.
