AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Cam Howieson looks back on his 100th appearance for Auckland City FC and victory in the Gridlock Derby at Madills Farm on Saturday with pride.

Howieson, who has spent much of the first month of the season resting after an arduous summer campaign, took centre stage on Saturday as he became just the 19th player in Navy Blues history to cross the 100-game mark for the club.

The 13-cap All Whites and former Burnley and St. Mirren midfielder has looked sharp and hungry again and he told www.aucklandcityfc.com exactly what it means to him to bring up his century.

It seems not that long ago Howieson brought up his 50th appearance in a 2-1 win over South United in the ISPS Handa Premiership on 13 January, 2019.

"It's a very proud moment for me to make my 100th appearance and to do it a Gridlock Derby with a 5-0 win made it a perfect day.

"We gave a top performance on Saturday, kept our third clean sheet in a row and scored five great goals. It's never easy coming to Madills Farm because there is a rivalry there but our players deserve a lot of credit for the way we played.

"We played a lot of good football and our aim was to make life difficult for Eastern Suburbs and collectively we did that. The team performance was one of our best of the season," he said.

Auckland City FC's next task is even tougher - a first ever competitive showdown with Auckland United FC at Kiwitea Street on Saturday 29 May 2021.

"It's going to be a tough game but that's what you want to have. The gap between the two teams isn't very big and that means we're going to prepare the best we can.

"We're going to go into the next game with confidence and as always we're looking for maximum points. As a footballer, these are always the games you want to be part of," he said.

Auckland City FC's derby with Auckland United FC kicks off at 3.00pm NZDT.
