AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Navy Blues striker Angus Kilkolly fires himself into record breaking position with six goal salvo in five consecutive games.

Kilkolly, a former Central United FC favourite, signed for Auckland City FC at the end of the final summer season and has featured in all eight Northern League games this season, bagging seven goals in total, his first in a 4-1 away win at Northern Rovers on April 5.

Since then, Kilkolly has gone on a scoring spree with a goal in each of the last five games, a run that started with one against each of West Coast Rangers, Western Springs, North Shore United and Melville United.

He notched two in the 5-0 thrashing of Birkenhead United.

The club record for scoring in consecutive games is held by the late Keryn Jordan who netted an astonishing 17 goals in just ten games between November 12, 2005 and January 28, 2006, a run that saw the former South African international claim three hat-tricks.

Kilkolly sits sixth in the club's list of consecutive scorers and a goal in Saturday's Gridlock Derby with Eastern Suburbs AFC at Madills Farm would elevate him into joint second with Emiliano Tade, who features twice in the rankings, Ryan De Vries and Myer Bevan.

The Kiwitea Street favourite is enjoying his football with Auckland City FC but isn't surprised he's among the goals given the form of the team in their debut Northern League campaign.

His reactive volley against Melville United captures the essence of the form he's currently in.

"The surface at Melville United really suited us and we picked up where we left off following the win over Birkenhead United.

"We've put together two top performances in a row and we have to keep building on that and bring the same intensity to each game.

"As a number nine, playing for Auckland City FC is ideal. I'm playing in a team where we're getting loads of the ball and I'm getting a lot of chances.

"I know the opportunity to score is always going to come and if you look around at the quality of players around us you know there is the possibility of goals in every position.

"If I'm not scoring, or Emi isn't scoring, there is still Mo, Dylan or Brian who pop up with goals. We've got a lot of attacking depth throughout the squad," he said.

With great names like Jordan, De Vries, Grant Young, Paul Urlovic, Myer Bevan, Joao Moreira and Manel Exposito kicking about the club's history, Kilkolly remains humble about his great start to 2021.

"I'm going better than even I expected to. I came into the squad pretty late after the ISPS Handa Premiership grand final. I'm just trying to enjoy playing for this great club, do the best I can and if I'm scoring goals, that's great, but we want to be winning games.

"We want to be top of the Northern League and winning games because thats what this club does. To be part of a team that does that is a fantastic privilege and that's all I want," he said.

While a goal against Eastern Suburbs AFC would lift Kilkolly into rarified company, he's under no illusion the Lilywhites will provide a tough afternoon in Kohimarama.

"Eastern Suburbs AFC play a similar brand of football to ourselves and they try to play out. They play their youth quite a bit, like us, they're a club with National League status and there's a familiarity between the two clubs.

"They'll be a tough opponent and next week will provide us with even tougher competition for us."

The game is scheduled for Saturday 22 May, 2021, at Madills Farm and kicks off at 3.00pm NZDT.
