AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Southern United's look ready to throw a spanner in the Junior Navy Blues works as the Auckland City FC National Youth League campaign continues on Sunday.

Auckland City FC play host to Southern United at Kiwitea Street and coach Andy Peat says matches don't come any tougher than the one his team is about to play.

"I am expecting a very tough match. Southern are arriving in Auckland on Saturday so they will be well rested as they do not have to travel to Auckland on the match day.

"I am expecting a combative match at times but if we adhere to our strategies and tactics we can be dominant. I do not expect this to be an easy match for us by any stretch," he said.

The Junior Navy Blues ranks are somewhat depleted with Yousif Al-Kalisy out with a serious leg injury incured against Canterbury United last week.

"Yousif Kalisy suffered and injury in his first appearance for us in the draw against Canterbury United in the first two minutes of the game.

"It is looking like Yousif may be out for a month maybe more dependent on his recovery. Auckland City FC has a great support team around him with Jono Henry and Matt Payne who will be on top of his return to play.

"We want him to have the best recovery and injuries at the younger ages need to be managed properly.
"When we see him back he will be fully fit and available for the youth team and Navy blues.

"In terms of what that means we turn to a group we have been developing so have players are ready to take the opportunities in the midfield role," Peat said.

With the Junior Navy Blues still unbeaten in the National Youth League, Peat is quietly optimistic his team are moving into a good space.

"Training this week has been positive. The players have been evolving and showing their understanding of the tactics off the field and translating that to on the pitch.

"That’s where we are making big strides forward behind the scenes. We have reduced the loading this week as many of these players have been training and playing since January.

"This way we have been able to maintain the quality of sessions. Overall, I feel we are in a positive space as an entire team (Staff & Players) heading into this weekend’s match," he said.

The match kicks off at 1pm at Kiwitea Street on Sunday 13 November.
