AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Auckland City FC claim a 3-0 Super City derby win as Waitakere United crumble at Seddon Field.

First half goals by Mohamed Awad and Logan Rogerson within 12 minutes inflicted a decisive blow to Paul Hobson's youngsters as Auckland City FC leapfrogged Team Wellington into top spot in the ISPS Handa Men's Premiership.

Skipper Cam Howieson doubled his own personal goal haul for the season with the Navy Blues third just after the restart.

Auckland City FC dominated the early proceedings and continued in that vein in the second half as they now sit atop of the competition thanks to their superior goal difference.

Jose Figueira's league leaders - who struggled for goals at the start of the campaign - have now scored seven in just two games and look more like their old formidable selves as the new year got underway with a bang.

Jordan Vale marked his 50th appearance for the Navy Blues with a solid display on the right side of defence while Awad, who was on target against the Wellington Phoenix in December, continued his sparkling form with another gem on one of the least playable pitches in the league.

Figueira also handed a late first team debut to former Junior Navy Blues skipper Aidan Carey while Andrew Blake replaced Vale as the game entered its final stages.

Auckland City FC are back in action with the visit of Hamilton Wanderers next Saturday. Wanderers shared the points in a tight 1-1 draw with two-time champions Team Wellington while Eastern Suburbs AFC slipped up as Hawke's Bay United made it back-to-back victories with a 2-1 away win at Madills Farm.

The Wellington Phoenix arrested their form slump with the round's other stalemate, the Wee Nix and Canterbury United producing a 1-1 draw.
