AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Two important wins for the Futsal Navy Blues leaves assistant coach Jess Verdon beaming as the Men's Futsal SuperLeague National Series got underway at the Pulman Arena in Auckland today.

The Futsal Navy Blues were in surgical mood after they knocked over Capital Futsal 3-1 in a tight game before turning in a ruthless display as they put six past Central Futsal in a 6-0 thrashing.

The two wins gives the Futsal Navy Blues 12 points from their last five games and sets them up nicely for two tricky encounters with Southern United and then Canterbury United.

Verdon was pleased with the two wins but pointed out several key elements that gave the Futsal Navy Blues coaching staff plenty of positives to mull over as the National Series heads into its second intensive day of competition.

"Obviously we're superstoked to takeaway six points. Its the perfect way to start the weekend in quite a big series so it does take a bit of pressure off moving into tomorrow which is great.

"I thought the guys did a fantastic job in both games and really showed how we can play and ended up getting some really good goals.

"Capital Futsal is always tough opposition so we're stoked to get a win against them. They're organised and fight to the end and they can play some quality Futsal, so we're proud we stuck to the game plan and managed to get a win against them as well," Verdon told www.aucklandcityfc.com.

The Futsal Navy Blues last outing was a damp squib after they were beaten 6-2 by Waikato Rapids at The Peak a fortnight ago but Verdon expressed satisfaction her side had found their ruthless streak in front of goal today.

"We've been a bit more clinical in front of goal than we were in the Northern Series. I think we were really composed in front of goal and scored some very good back post goals which is really great to see.

"But it's another tough day tomorrow and its a really tough weeknd for the guys and so we're looking forward to taking it to the South Island teams and getting more points.

"Its been a fantastic start to the tournament and hopefully we can continue that on Saturday," she said.

The Futsal Navy Blues start Match Day 2 with a tough encounter with Southern United who knocked over the Waikato Rapids earlier in the day. That game kicks off at 11.30am.

In the late game, the Futsal Navy Blues take on the Canterbury United Dragons Futsal side at 4.00pm.
