AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Good Shepherd Primary School and Wesley Intermediate hosted Navy Blues duo Clayton Lewis and Alfie Rogers as the club unfurled its Family Day celebration today.

Wesley Intermediate, famed for producing some of New Zealand's most accomplished athletes in a variety of sports welcomed Lewis and Rogers to their assembly this morning.

PE Teacher, Trevor Ball, said the school was delighted to welcome Lewis and Rogers.

"Our school loves all sports and we have a proud track record of top sportspeople emerging from our school.

"David Tua, Sonny Bill Williams, Beatrice Faumuina to name some. Also, we've produced nearly 65 NRL rugby league players over the years and we haven't counted it up for a while since," Ball said.

Lewis and Rogers both spoke to the assembly to encourage students to come along to the Navy Blues Stirling Sports Premiership match with Canterbury United on Sunday 6 November.

Each child who attends, gets in free along with an accompanying adult, a match programme, poster and a photo taken by award winning photographer Shane Wenzlick.

"I'm very proud to play for Auckland City FC and New Zealand and we know how much it means to have a strong community behind you.

"I think its great that Wesley Intermediate and Good Shepherds Primary School want to be involved and support us and I hope we in turn can give something back to the children and youth here," Lewis said.

Alfie Rogers, who came to New Zealand with his family from England, is now a settled resident of the country and he said the value of family was important when making a big move to a new country.

"Family is very important and so is a welcoming community especially when you have to start again from scratch.

"Auckland City FC is like a big family and everyone supports you and tries to make sure you're looked after. I think its great Wesley Intermediate and Good Shepherds Primary School welcomed us today to give away the vouchers for Sunday's game and I hope we can se a lot of the children at the game with their parents," he said.

Auckland City FC chairman Ivan Vuksich said community and togetherness were important factors for any team, school or group and he hoped the outreach draws in a positive response.

"Our players love being part of the Auckland community and we enjoy playing to our best for the spectators and we hope to see as many families as possible at our game on Sunday.

"Edendale Primary, Wesley Intermediate, Wesley Primary, Good Shepherd's Primary and Dominion Road Primary have all been fantastic and we hope to do more with the schools in the very near future," he said.
